Theatre Reviews and Interviews

Othello

This is just one of the many grim pearls of wisdom an audience to Othello might capture as they behold this masterwork fable of ill-fated love and hand-wringing deceit. Truly it is a pleasure to see the Bard’s words come to life here, in the NoHo Arts District — and it’s all due to the abundant passion and commitment of the fine folks at J-P Theater Productions.

Write of Spring 2024

A NoHo Arts theatre review of Write Act Rep’s Write of Spring 2024., running through June 2 at the Brickhouse Theatre.

Shakespeare in Love

In short, Pierce College’s Shakespeare in Love is absolutely magical and a fantastic homage to the film, while still being its own wonderful play. Like the best of Shakespeare's actual work, there are crowd-pleasing moments, heartbreak, passion and plenty of bits with a dog. It’s a nerve wracking,  tumultuous, inspiring and magical play performed with gusto and nuance and reverence by a truly wonderful cast who should be very proud of the miracle of what they have accomplished. They took a film and made it better…

SINGULARITIES or the Computers of Venus

A NoHo Arts theatre review of THE ROAD THEATRE COMPANY’s production of SINGULARITIES or the Computers of Venus, written and directed by Laura Stribling.

Where Y’all From?

A NoHo Arts theatre review of Yelba Zoe McCourt’s solo show, “Where Y’all From?”

Ghosted

I loved this play and what a gorgeous performance by this warm, wise, sexy woman. Engaging everyone, connecting, mesmerizing and holding the audience in the palm of her hand while she unwound this sad and funny, tragic and inspiring tale. I really hope you get the chance to see Celeste Walker’s “Ghosted.”

De Maeyer-Kende Violin & Piano Duo Review

De Maeyer-Kende Violin & Piano Duo Review. The duo of De Maeyer and Kende not only bring precision, passion, and virtuosity, but they also bring that added ingredient that is hard to describe, something indefinable, magical even. It is like that secret ingredient that makes a dish unforgettable.

Faliks•Cani Piano & Violin Duo

Faliks*Cani Piano & Violin Duo. Inna Faliks at the piano was mesmerizing and valorous. I come for her brilliance, but I stay for the revelation she gives to the pieces. Roberto Cani on violin is in a class of his own, playing with exquisite tenderness and explosive flair. Together, these two are sublime.

SoCal Concert Pianist Jason Stoll

A NoHo Arts music review of SoCal Concert Pianist Jason Stoll at The Athena Foundation for the Arts.

Black Bouquet’s “Pray to the Knife”

A NoHo Arts music review of Black Bouquet’s “Pray to the Knife” album and video release. North Carolina-based Black Bouquet’s new album “Pray to the Knife” is a gorgeously dark poetic wall of sound, full of breathless vocals and haunting guitars. It’s theatrical and epic but the payoff is intensely intimate and truthful and insanely fun…in the darkest emo way.
