[NoHo Arts District, CA] – A NoHo Arts music review of Black Bouquet’s “Pray to the Knife” album and video release.
North Carolina-based Black Bouquet’s new album “Pray to the Knife” is a gorgeously dark poetic wall of sound, full of breathless vocals and haunting guitars. It’s theatrical and epic but the payoff is intensely intimate and truthful and insanely fun…in the darkest emo way.
There’s even some electronica in the mix, think The Killers meets Depeche Mode…but Black Bouquet have their very own special twist of the knife. I love the layers of vocals, the backing sounds like it’s sung in a dungeon, while the lead vocal is right up against you… it’s a brilliant effect, makes for an epic sound, but with a whispering melancholy.
If you like post-punk, gothic rock or darkly luminous authentic beautiful music, then this album is perfect for you. There’s a lot of anger here too, but it’s so brilliantly balanced with the waves of passion and the story-filled songs.
“Run and Hide” is the first single release and there’s a fantastically grim video to accompany it. Black Bouquet has already found a following and has garnered awards and glory. But I have a feeling there’s a lot more glorious darkness to come from this exceptional band…looking forward to wallowing with them once more!
