The Whitefire Theatre will open its 40th season with SOLOFEST 2022 January 14-March 20.

Whitefire Theatre’s SOLOFEST 2022, a celebration of the solo journey, has been recognized as the largest solo theatre festival on the West Coast. This year’s festival program offers premieres and audience favorites live on stage, with some shows available with a stream on demand option. SOLOFEST 2022, hosted by Bryan Rasmussen and Victoria Watson Winkler.

QUEER: DRAG AND DRUGS AND A TICK TOCK CLOCK
Written and performed by Jair Bula, directed by Juliette Jeffers. Winner of the Hollywood Encore Producers’ Award, this solo show is about Jair’s journey of coming to terms with his Queer identity, as he desperately looks for self-love, through the art of Drag and cocaine in the streets of Miami, while the song of a tick tock clock leads him to self-acceptance.

TOO BIG FOR MY BRITCHES
Written and performed by Lisa Pezik, directed and developed by Heather Dowling. A one-woman musical journey about self-love and breaking generational abuse.  The main character steps into her big britches and stops trying to make herself smaller to be loved, finding herself questioning everything about her life and how she got there.

I NEVER MET A JERK I DIDN’T LIKE Written and performed by Tiffany Phillips, directed and produced by Kimleigh Smith.  The critically acclaimed and audience favorite show is an unabashed everywoman’s referendum on dating in the 21st Century. Tour de force Tiffany Phillips invites us on her personal roller coaster ride through the minefield of modern dating and love.

FOLLOW THE YELLOW BRICK ROAD
Written and performed by Amanda Casarella, directed by Kimleigh Smith.  Amanda Casarella takes the audience on her life-changing journey one brick at a time from the bottom of her dark spiral to finally defying gravity. Witness how this brave young girl frees herself from fear, overcomes the walls that have held her back, and becomes the extraordinary woman she was always meant to be.

UNHEARD VOICES 2 – Women of Antiquity
Written by J.S. Bellatore, directed by Ralph Tropf, produced by The All Roses Company. World premiere solo plays based on women from history whose stories have not been told…until now.  The evening will feature three monologues.  Liz Spruell as Eve, Krystyna Walters as Helen of Troy and Mo Beatty as Pope Joan.

Written and performed by Liesel Hlista, directed and developed with Jessica Lynn Johnson.  This serio-comedy follows a new mom and her deep roller coaster ride from her surprising postpartum journey deep into the trenches of toddlerhood.

THE HOLY O – A new interactive experience 
Written and performed by Lauren Hance, directed by Amelia Peterson. A vivacious and possibly lost woman, is contemplating becoming a Catholic nun but has never considered celibacy one of her virtues. Her situation is complicated by the onset of visions and rapturous prayers. As she sorts through the remaining bits of what she owns, her story unfolds and is intertwined with stories of other women’s experiences exploring the connection between the body, the spirit, and sexuality.  Partial nudity.  Libations & Conversations immediately following the show.

Written and performed by George Steeves, directed by Megan Ford-Miller.  An atypical romantic comedy, that explores all of the awkward firsts that come with dating, sex and love from a late bloomer’s perspective. Being on the autism spectrum is challenging enough, now add dating to the mix. There’s quite a learning curve.

World premiere solo show directed by Wendy Hammers, written, performed and choreographed by Lynne Jassem, original music with musical direction by Jassem and Jane Getz. In 1949 feeling like a boy who looks like a girl was never thought about…or heaven forbid actually spoken of. “Will I ever have a penis? I just want someone to know who I am.”  Try being a She that thinks She is a He (or is He a She). You may stumble as Lynne sometimes did, but every strange situation that he/she encounters brings her closer to finding her truth.  And…he/she can tap dance!

Written by Charlotte Gladbach, directed by Jessica Lynn Johnson. Charley, a mature registered nurse, wants to retire but can’t. Not wanting to be a nurse in the first place, she longed to be an entertainer yearning to dance, sing and entertain.  She has moments of personal victory as she edutains through tunes and tales about what happens in a hospital and with the patients she has taken care of during the course of her career.

Written and performed by Kevin (Womack) Neighbors, directed and developed with Jessica Lynn Johnson.  When a young Black college student is killed by police at his university, it is all anyone is talking about, but is anything productive being done? With talk show talking heads and YouTubers with strong opinions, Kevin morphs solo theatre into a digital media driven experience with this dive into contemporary network news and social media facades.

Written and performed by Eli Castro, is a show about family, music, and cultural identity; a celebration of diversity and a bold commentary on Spanglish culture. Through captivating storytelling, former attorney-turned-comedian Castro takes us on a journey through Puerto Rico; its beautiful people and most cherished traditions.  Eli Castro recently won “Best Stand-Up” at the acclaimed United Solo Festival in NYC.

Written by Pina Sbrocca, directed by Gita Farid, developed by Jessica Lynn Johnson. Nella is the leader of a Women’s Mafia Anonymous group. It is rumored that Nella’s dad did business with the Mafia. In these hidden group meetings, the women, each one connected to somebody in the Mob, share how their lives are affected by their loved one’s choices.

TRAGIC MAGIC – A Story of Recovery
Written and performed by Sigute Miller, directed and developed by Beth Bornstein Dunnington, and produced by Gwenn Morreale.  A story of tragedy, trauma, and transformation. Daughter of Lithuanian “DP’s” (displaced persons), needing to fit in, Sigute experienced addiction at an early age. From hanging with the bad boys and harrowing blackouts, to getting sober, transforming in India, and reconnecting with her first love – nature – she weaves her traumatic and redemptive journey with raw honesty, pathos, song, poetry and humor.
