Today we have many choices when it comes to flooring, especially wood flooring.
Both have their pros and cons so let’s go over them.
Some features to take into consideration are as follows. Laminate flooring is more uniform in pattern, which can create a more cohesive look. It’s also easier to care for, as it can be a bit more fade and scratch resistant, with some being water-resistant. While real hardwood flooring seems to be the more popular choice, it requires a little more care and maintenance. And no two pieces are alike which creates a more natural look. However, hardwood can be replaced if a piece is damaged and in need of repair, or even sanded a few times if refinishing is needed, while you run the risk of a discontinued style and pattern with a laminate. The latter is something I am currently experiencing. It can take only four to five years for a laminate floor to become obsolete.
Now if you’re upgrading your floors for resale, then real hardwood is the way to go as it will add to your homes overall value. But we can only install what we can afford, right? The cost of laminate vs. hardwood can be considerable. The average cost of a laminate today is about 2.89 a square foot for a mid-range item, while you can pay 8.00 to 14.00 or more for a hardwood based on the type of wood you choose.
As for maintaining your floors, its simple. Laminates require a good sweeping and a warm, damp mop. While hardwood needs a good sweeping as well, you can mop with vinegar and warm water. Be mindful not to saturate the floor as it can harm the wood.
So do a little research, measuring and price comparing before you decide what is going into your home.
And as always, enjoy!
