[NoHo Arts District, CA] – In this month’s Active World Journeys travel blog, Jack Witt looks at a new TSA program that could make going to the airport feel a little more like 1985, when you could meet family at the gate, see someone off or spend a layover with a friend.
Imagine meeting family right at their gate when they get off the plane to visit you. Or meeting a friend inside the airport for lunch that is just passing through your city on a long layover or being able to walk your child right to their gate for a flight to visit Grandma and Grandpa. Seems very 1980’s, doesn’t it? But a new program called “Gateside by TSA PreCheck” will soon make this classic style of airport access and availability a reality. (Although you’ll still have to go through security like all the travelers, but your line will be the TSA PreCheck expedited line.)
People who have Known Traveler Numbers such as Global Entry and/or TSA Pre Check Members will be eligible. It’s a free service and you’ll need to apply 1-3 days ahead of time. The program is currently available at 13 airports across the USA (including LAX) and will roll out to more airports in the coming months.

Now, if we can just get some throwback pricing on air tickets, more legroom like back in the 80s, and easy and simple miles and points programs that accrue really, really fast like the good ol’ days!
