[NoHo Arts District, CA] – In this month’s Active World Journeys travel blog, Jack Witt announces a once-in-a-lifetime Egypt tour to experience the August 2027 total solar eclipse in Luxor.
Did you know that on August 2, 2027, Luxor, Egypt, will experience one of the most incredible astronomical events of the century: a total solar eclipse lasting a whopping 6 minutes and 23 seconds. It will start at 11:40 a.m. local time; totality will begin at 1:02 p.m. and end at 1:08 p.m., with the partial eclipse concluding at 2:26 p.m.
Being at Luxor’s World Heritage ancient temples, clear, cloudless desert skies are almost guaranteed for an ultimate experience. This 2027 total eclipse will be the longest totality on land globally until the year 2114 (so that’s 88 years until the next one).
Luxor was the capital of the pharaohs during the height of ancient Egypt’s power in the second millennium BCE (it was called Thebes then). Its famous sites include Karnak Temple and Luxor Temple, the Valley of the Kings, the Valley of the Queens, Queen Hatshepsut’s temple and the Colossi of Memnon. It truly is the world’s largest open-air museum.
All of this sounds so amazing and intriguing, doesn’t it? I’ve been to Egypt twice, once as a solo traveler in the early 90s and once back in 2018 when I hosted my Active World Journeys Egypt Tour.
As I mentioned in my article, nothing compares to Egypt. You can almost feel the beginning of time there. I have a friend I’ve known for well over 30 years who is Egyptian and has lived there all his life, and he had connected me with one of his associates who owns a local tour company there called Traveline Egypt for my 2018 tour, and everything went terrific. We felt safe, we saw all the major sites, tasted amazing food, and even got to spend some time with the locals away from the tourist areas.
So why am I telling you all of this? Because I am announcing I will be hosting another Egypt tour to coincide with this once-in-a-lifetime solar eclipse event in August 2027! How could I not? I have such strong travel and personal connections in Egypt and I know they’d love to welcome a fun group of Americans back.
Just an FYI, Cairo, Egypt is not in the path of totality. However, we will still visit there, most likely in the days leading up to being in Luxor for the special event. (The Giza pyramids are mind-blowing!)
So mark your calendars, and I’ll see you in Egypt for what could become one of the largest eclipse gatherings in the history of the world.
