The NoHo Arts District dot com team asked Zombie Joe’s about hosting the L.A. Weekly Theatre Awards and what it means to the NoHo Arts Community:

“The LA Weekly Awards this year, as hosted by ZJU Theatre Group, is about putting the final nail in the coffin of LA Theater. For the last hundred years, Los Angeles Theater has been disrespected by those who think that LA’s culture stops with Hollywood. Unfortunately, this mindset seems to be infecting those who actively participate in LA’s rich theater community; most evident in the dying art form of theater criticism and media coverage of the LA Theater community. So, at the 35th Annual LA Weekly Theater Awards, we are saying goodbye to the old image of LA theater and witnessing the rebirth of LA theater. Out with the old, in with the new.

As for the impact that the LA Weekly Awards has on NoHo, this is most evident from the perfect example of the ZJU Theatre Group itself. Having been a member of the NoHo Arts District for 14 years, ZJU has seen the explosive growth of the theater community in NoHo (mirrored by the growth of LA theater, at large). All of this, despite the fact that there is little to no love from the Big Brother Media Outlets. The people crave theater. The NoHo Arts District has grown despite the numerous obstacles over the years, because this is what the people want. To walk down Lankershim and hear people discussing theater, talking of certain playwrights, or directors, or amazing performances, it’s not just satisfying, it’s invigorating. It’s incredible to be a part of the NoHo Arts District.”

Thank you, Zombie Joe’s Underground! The NoHo arts community’s website  www.nohoartsdistrict.com has been operating since 1998 and has seen the transformation of our neighborhood. Like we have always said and will continue to say: “Our neighborhood is only as great as its people.”

CONGRATULATIONS to all the hard-working and creative theatre players in NoHo and all throughout Los Angeles who have been nominated. Keep up the great work and let’s continue to show them L.A. IS a theatre town!

See you at the theatre!
