Yoga NoHo Center Q&A on www.nohoartsdistrict.com

Whether you are novice or a seasoned yoga practitioner, you’ll find your home at Yoga NoHo Center.

The unofficial NoHo motto is: “NoHo is only as great as its people.” This winter we are highlighting some of our awesome creative neighbors in the NoHo Arts District. This week features the Yoga NoHo Center, a North Hollywood wellness center.

The Yoga NoHo Center is your neighborhood studio offering modern yoga with deep yogic study, Chiropractic, Massage, and Spiritual Healing. The Yoga NoHo Center first opened their doors in 2014 and and we all are excited to have them fully re-opened.

“Our belief at Yoga NoHo Center is, now more than ever, people need to be healthy, happy and strong to navigate through life. We are here every step of the way.” – Karen Russell, owner

The Yoga NoHo Center offers both far infrared heated and non-heated traditional yoga classes such as; Gentle, Power, Vinyasa Flow, Yin, Restorative and Kundalini yoga. They also offer on-demand yoga, live streaming yoga and semi-private / private yoga classes.

Do you want to go deeper into your practice? Then sign up for their certified teacher trainings, workshops, sound baths and exciting retreats. Did you know? The Yoga NoHo Center has more than 20 years’ experience with partner studios in India.

What makes NoHo Yoga unique….I know you come from the dance world?

The Yoga NoHo Center is the only yoga studio in Los Angeles that provides both Far Infrared Heat (with hardwood floors) and Traditional Non-Heated Yoga, all styles of yoga such as Kundalini, Gentle, Power, Vinyasa, Yin, Restorative and amazing Yoga Certified Teacher Training, workshops with established teachers who have studied in India, and world-wide retreats. I was a professional dancer for 18 years and was lucky to work with legends such as Bette Midler, Madonna, Michael Jackson. So when I decided to have children, yoga was a natural progression and I blend dance with yoga in all my Vinyasa Flow classes.

What are the benefits of doing yoga on a regular basis?

Endless…. because yoga is a mind, body and soul practice one will not only improve every aspect of their physical body, but they will become emotionally centered and now more than ever after being locked down for two years, I have seen people just come to yoga for a moment of peace and clarity. When I conduct my 200 hour yoga teacher training, I always say to my students at the beginning of the course, “You may be taking the course to teach, but you will finish the course knowing who you really are and how great you can be with endless lust for life.” People finally get a chance to take the time without all the noise and chatter to find who they really are. Many of my students, if not all, make profound life-changing choices after the course. So It Is Endless.

Since yoga is so good for you, why do people hesitate taking a class?

Well, I think they have this idea that “I have to be flexible,” or ” I am out of shape” or “I am too heavy” or “I don’t have time” or ” I am not a vegan”… the list goes on and on. In reality, because it is a practice of your “Mind Body Soul,” none of the above matters at all. If you have a real yoga school that cares and understands the true philosophy of yoga then the mantra should be:

“Come as you are, our job as a yoga studio or as a teacher is to hold a space for you to just be and grow.”

What made you pick NoHo to open your business?

I (Karen Russell) now own the Yoga NoHo Center and have lived in this community, and owned my first yoga studio, Yoga Groove, in the arts district since 2001.  I support the arts as I believe an art district is vital for a community to thrive in a big city like Los Angeles.
