TIM CHIZMAR, Moderator, Horror Writers Panel

When TIM CHIZMAR was a child he lost himself in evil, scary stories. One day, a morally righteous librarian refused to let him take out his books. Reading about demons, beheadings, and cannibalism wasn’t the norm in Linesville, Pennsylvania. When Tim brought his mother to the library, she insisted that her son be allowed to read whatever he wanted. This upset the librarian so she looked his mother in the eye said, “Your son is going to grow up to be a great horror writer one day… or a serial killer.” As of this writing, Tim hasn’t killed anyone, just yet. Since graduating from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania in 2005 with his BA in Communications, he has written and sold many short stories and screenplays. As a member of the prestigious Horror Writers Association he signed a 3 book deal in 2014. His work has been read in Fangoria, Icons of Fright, Girls & Corpses Magazine and in such anthologies as HELL COMES TO HOLLYWOOD 2 and 18 WHEELS OF HORROR. Tim is welcome to check out any books he wishes at the North Hollywood Regional Library.

Panelists will include:

JERRY SMITH is an avid film critic for Fangoria Magazine as well as a writer for Blumhouse.com, Shock Till You Drop and Delirium Magazine. As if that’s not enough to keep one busy, he’s been the Editor in Chief for the long running (12 years) horror site, Icons of Fright. Smith recently directed the “emotional horror” film, LOVE IS DEAD and is writing a serial killer novella called THE FOUNTAIN SHARK.

MARTIN LASTRAPES is a bestselling and award-winning novelist. He grew up in the Inland Empire, has a Bachelor’s Degree in English and a Master’s Degree in Composition from Cal State San Bernardino, watches his favorite movies over and over again, learned many a lesson from professional wrestling, wonders if he’ll ever be famous enough to be on Dancing With the Stars, thinks good stand-up comedy is rare and under- appreciated, is scared of Vladimir Putin, wonders if it’s too late to learn how to play the guitar, gets depressed when he hears the theme song from M*A*S*H, wonders why Teen Wolf never made it to the NBA, and wants Morgan Freeman to narrate his life. He’s also the host of The Martin Lastrapes Show Podcast Hour.

JOHN PALISANO is a writer whose non-fiction has appeared in FANGORIA and DARK DISCOVERIES magazines. He won the Bram Stoker Award© in short fiction. He’s got a pair of books with Samhain Publishing, DUST OF THE DEAD, and GHOST HEART. NERVES is available through Bad Moon. NIGHT OF 1,000 BEASTS is coming soon. John Palisano’s short stories have appeared in anthologies from PS Publishing, Terror Tales, Lovecraft eZine, Horror Library, Bizarro Pulp, Written Backwards, Dark Continents, Darkscribe, DarkFuse, Dark House, and many more. He’s currently serving as the Vice President of the Horror Writer’s Association.
