Nashville musician and Carolina transplant Will Jackson’s new album “Songs From The Briarpatch” is heartfelt melodic ode to heartland Americana.
Love songs, life songs, songs about coping with what we all have to deal with. Jackson has a magical ability to take stories close to our experiences and turn them into poetic rock songs filled to the brim with anecdotal guitars and echoing piano.
“Songs From The Briarpatch” reminds me of the very best of rock, based around the American story of family, struggle, love and loss.
Will’s gorgeous husky heartrending voice paints a picture with each line. Every phrase as meaningful as the last. The arrangements are purposeful, filled with exactly the right amount of sentiment and poignancy.
If you like Springsteen, you’ll love Will Jackson. But although these songs are a little retrospective, they are also entirely his own style. Influenced by classic rock, musical theatre, alt rock and the top 40 music he grew up around. Yet, what’s clear from these songs is Jackson’s affinity for great songwriting. No gimmicks, no ‘fill,’ no frippery.
These are songs beautifully crafted, meaningful, wrought from experience of life and of the thousands of gigs Jackson and his band have performed over the years in Nashville and beyond.
This is an excellent album. Truly. One hit after another. Tight, inventive, powerful, fantastic musicianship and classic, epic, wonderful songs…I loved it!!! I think big things are in store for Will Jackson. A shout out to the lady singing backing, she’s amazing! Favorite song, “Gonna Get Me Killed.” Brilliant!
