“Forever Brooklyn! A Kosher Musical Comedy” at Whitefire SOLOFEST 2019 starring Danny DiTorrice, written and directed by Mark W. Curran.
Running January 5 through February 9, Saturdays at 7.30pm
This is a great play if you are missing home, wherever your home may be – Brooklyn, London, the jungle…wherever.
“Forever Brooklyn!” would make even the hardest of hearts long for the familiar sounds, people and even the smells of the place in the world that formed you, however hard we may all try sometimes to shake it.
This is mostly a play and somewhat a musical but it is most definitely all comedy.
Set around the life of Melvin Kaplofkis, “Forever Brooklyn!” takes us on his funny, musical and slightly criminal journey through his life. From his families modest walk-up apartment in Brooklyn above his father’s record store, to a life of glamor and glory as a touring comedian starring on the Tonight Show.
Marvin lead us rather delightfully through the American experience of his loving immigrant family with all the duplicity and the heartache that all lives generally serve up. He shares with us precious anecdotes and life lessons hard learned in the neighborhood and in school, and later on in performance after performance as he discovers the hard way, as all of us always do, what really means the most in life.
Danny DiTorrice is magical and full of sweetly delivered and beautifully written reminiscences evoking a golden, bygone age. Isn’t it fascinating how we long for this particular past? The 50s and 60s in America, Rock n Roll, huge TV sets with tiny screens, radio, vinyl, massive cars, neighborhoods where everyone around you is family no matter where they come from and a feeling that we could all live forever…
If you still plan on doing just that, living forever as I do, then spend some of your endless time with Melvin Kaplofkis in Brooklyn with his hilarious songs, warm whimsical memories and his tender exploration of his all American experience, beginning and ending in his wonderful Brooklyn…forever.
You’ll laugh! You’ll cry! You’ll be all verklempt!
The run is not that long and the show only plays on Saturday nights, so don’t dawdle!!!
