A NoHo Arts music review of Westrock’s “Welcome to the River” album.
This is an album about the love of the American outdoors’ lifestyle. Mountains, deserts, rivers and everything in between. An homage to the beautiful landscape, the wildlife that populates it and the people that live for it.
Westrock’s “Welcome to the River” is warm country music with a lovely folk feel. Guitar, fiddle and gorgeous vocals, give this album a timeless quality, an honesty and deeply American authenticity. It’s the kind of music you play outdoors, or on your way there.
There’s a wonderful sense of longing in the music too. Perhaps it’s the fiddle, fiddle always has that haunting edge doesn’t it? Or, maybe it’s the lovely backing vocals, the brilliant harmonies and the stories in the songs. Whatever it is, this is a brilliant album full of gently rocking, catchy soulful songs.
American country rock is the beating heart of the American heartland. It fills the soul up with starry nights, campfires, wild horses, cookouts, snow-peaked mountains and good friends playing good music. “Westrock’s “Welcome to the River” is a classic American album.
Every song makes you smile, every soaring guitar solo and gentle funky rhythm unapologetically engineered to make you happy! It’s a great record, perfect for a country opening up it’s heart and it’s life once again. A true reminder of what we have all been missing these long, long last couple of years! Loved it!
Favorite song – “Hey Hey.” It just makes you want to dance!
