“Cubicle Zombie” is the new EP from the artistic mind of Weather McNabb and is a splendid example of when sardonic wit meets playful storyteller meets compelling vocals.
With influences from Alainis Morrisette to Annie Lennox to Garbage, the songs seem to tell a sordid tale.
Anti-establishment in a glorious Matrix-like rejection of society with full-blown, war-like calls to arms. Thoughtful inspiring layers of vocals and insistent beats blended with orchestral piano and theatrical operatic arrangements.
Weather’s vocals remind me a little of Alison Moyet. But then I’m an 80s baby and love all that glam electronica with drum machines and dark stylized lyrics…painting pictures with smoke and black and red…gorgeous!
I salute McNabb for her unabashed reminiscing and her anecdotal songs awash with the trappings of our modern life. Her beautiful use of electronic drums, heaving, swaying keys and jingly guitar riffs poignantly punctuate every song…love the vocal effects too.
Nostalgia abounds and overall this EP is a very pleasant walk down memory lane a la Ultravox and Human League, with a good big wallop of intravenous modern regret, anger and betrayal. Loved it!
