Top three crime prevention tips for the NoHo Arts area.
Senior Lead Officer John Catalano from the LAPD North Hollywood gives us some quick tips to help keep us safe.
1. No matter where you park your car, DO NOT leave ANYTHING inside your vehicle. This is just an easy opportunity for criminals. Backpacks, laptop computers , a purse or any electronics big or small. If nothing is visible – there is nothing to steal.
2. In our pedestrian friendly community, biking is encouraged and very popular. So is Bike theft. Take the necessary precautions needed to keep it secured. Invest in a quality bike lock. Don’t leave it unattended and know your bikes serial number. It would also help to have a photo available to help identify it later.
Side note : If you think leaving it on your second story balcony of your residence is a very safe location, you are wrong. Street level balcony thefts are easy and often. Today we have criminals who like more of a challenge and an upper balcony is not much of a deterrent.
3. Do not use your $1000 cell phone or laptop as a seat saver for you to go to the restroom or to get a refill at your favorite coffee shop. Neither your seat nor your electronics will be there when you return. Guaranteed.
