If you’re getting bored of knowing what cool series to watch next, do not fear; movies are here! In the next few months, we expect to see lots of fantastic blockbuster titles, so much so that it has been pretty difficult to keep up with what will be the best. From Vikings to superheroes and everything else in between, it’s going to be a year of star-studded cast members with something that pretty much everyone can enjoy.
Away from new titles, there are a lot of long-awaited sequels that will have die-hard fans truly excited. No matter the genre you’re in the mood for, there is a strong chance that there will be a film for you available this year. Let us get stuck into the top 10 up-and-coming movies of this year.
Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness
Doctor Strange makes a triumphant return to the Multiverse of Madness after spending five months on the other side. Wong is now dealing with the consequences of his actions, having unleashed the multiverse as the former Sorcerer Supreme. To help him, he has employed Wanda, who was last seen in WandaVision. In the second Spider-Man: No Way Home post-credits scene, both Baron Mordo and… well, to point out anything else would spoil the scene. There is no doubt that Spider-Man filmmaker Sam Raimi is the man in charge of the film, and we cannot wait to see what marvelous worlds he takes us to.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
The best Spider-Man movie has to be Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. As a result, there is great anticipation for the sequel, which is only the first chapter of a much longer story, Across the Spider-Verse – Part One. Chris Miller and Phil Lord have described Miles’ story as epic in their screenplays. “We thought it would be a single movie in our initial writing, but to our surprise, it was two. We are currently in the middle of writing the second film. We’ll be sleeping again in 2024.”
Lightyear
Despite what you might expect, Lightyear might not be the origin story of Buzz Lightyear. Director Angus MacLane explains that the confusion comes from the term ‘real.’ People always say, ‘Well, this is the real Buzz.’ This is the character of Buzz Lightyear. It’s not the actual figurine; it’s the real character. In Star Wars terms, it’s like comparing a Luke Skywalker Kenner action figure from Toy Story with Luke Skywalker, the character in Star Wars.
Jurassic World: Dominion
Jurassic World was set around a park, similar to the originals, while the second film saw scenes spanning across an island with a creepy mansion and a boat. In the latest edition of Jurassic World: Dominion, the entire world is overrun with dinosaurs and creatures (and their DNA) out in the open, with the whole world as their new playground.
Avatar 2
Avatar first hit our screens back in 2009. It broke records and smashed the box office to pieces, so why such a long wait for a sequel to hit the big screen? One of the main problems was in writing. Producer Jon Landau says that there isn’t one but four new scripts bringing the series up to number 5. Being spoilt for choice could have been why things have taken so long.
Thor: Love and Thunder
Thor: Love and Thunder, the fourth film from the series, has promised to offer craziness and bonkers delight for all Thor fanatics. The director has stated that she wants to surprise fans with moments that they least expect. The action film is anticipated to excite and ignite a newfound love for fans old and new. A love story? Maybe so.
The Northman
In a simple way, The Northman is the Viking story of Hamlet. Written and directed by Robert Eggers, writer of The Witch and The Lighthouse, The Northman is a hard-hitting thriller that sees murder, honor, and torment. Alexander Skarsgård’s prince Amleth wants revenge for the killing of his father. The main difference between Hamlet in this portrayal is the battle for choosing violence. The Northman has no difficulty knowing how he wants to seek his vengeance.
Top Gun: Maverick
The sequel we have all been waiting for is finally here. Once again, Tom Cruise will play Pete Maverick Mitchell to glide through the sky at supersonic speeds. Everything from the chosen music, iconography, and spine-tingling trailers has pushed the excitement to the limit. After over three decades and a further pandemic delay, we finally have the sequel that we wanted. Tom Cruise feels the G forces looking greater than ever.
Halloween Ends
In the reboot of the Halloween trilogy, the only insight we have heard is that Jamie Lee Curtis, who plays Laurie Strode, believes this is going to be the last time she will portray the character. The obvious answer is that she dies in the film, but it doesn’t seem as simple as that. The emotions that the actor has built up and created have ensured that the end to this trilogy is something a little more than spectacular.
Don’t Worry Darling
Don’t Worry Darling is an excellent choice for lovers of psychological thrillers. Set in the 1950s, Alice, played by Florence Pugh, is an unhappy housewife married to Jack, played by Harry Styles. Their neighborhood seems pretty normal in the beginning, but Jack is hiding a dark secret making things look not as good as they seem.
