“Santasia – A Holiday Comedy” is celebrating its 20th year of glorious life.
And I can promise you that this year is just as brilliant as ever!
Each year these extremely creative and dedicated group of actors entertain us with their delightfully warped and seasonally fueled stories, songs and glorious dance extravaganzas. This festively inclined group has over the years created some of the most amusingly depraved dance numbers, sketches, musical adaptations, short films and claymation movies. Every one of these creations has become crowd favorites over the years and, like your favorite Christmas decorations, they can never get too old, however disheveled they may have become.
Created originally by brothers Shaun and Brandon Loeser with dance numbers choreographed by Tania Pearson-Loeser, there are more than 25 sketches and each year they add more and more. Beneath the glitz, the fun and the hilarity, it’s really all about love, their love for each other, their love for Christmas and their love for sharing their own very funny version of what Christmas really means to them all.
Santasia is the kind of madcap show we should all go to every year if only to see the latest crazy incarnation. Make it your new tradition.
Bring your kids (age 13 and up; mature language and limited film/animated violence), bring your family and bring your friends because everyone on stage seems to be just that important to each other.
There are sketches about festive house decorating, dysfunctional dinners, heartfelt anecdotes from childhood, a brilliant trip on a runaway sleigh and classic and nimbly performed musical numbers with some serious dance sequences… all exquisitely funny and in wonderfully inappropriate costumes. Just fantastic!
I have to say my favorite are the Broadway musical take-off numbers and this year they didn’t disappoint with their absolutely brilliant “Cats” take off…just hilarious!
If you go to any Christmas show this year, it really has to be Santasia.
