[NoHo Arts District, CA] – A NoHo Arts music review of The Solasta Piano Trio at The Athena Foundation for the Arts 2023 Fall Concert Series.
To say that The Solasta Piano Trio is delightful, inspiring and entertaining is no exaggeration. Usually, when I attend classical concerts, I am often times impressed and even moved by such impassioned talent. But, the trio, which consists of pianist Eva Schaumkell, violinist Niv Ashkenazi, and cellist Zack Reaves, are so talented and their connection with the audience was sublime.
The selection of their repertoire was in equal measures technically challenging and accessible. From Shostakvoch to Beethoven, to Clara Schumann and George Gershwin, I was a willing audience member taking in such auditory magic. The joining of these three world-class musicians brought such joy to the audience that for a couple of hours, I was transported away to a place of harmony and peace.
I was aware of three of the composers highlighted, but not with Clara Schumann, which was a failing on my part. However, this underrepresented composer was in the same class as the other three gentlemen. I left the performance with a skip in my step and a smile on my face. Who would have imagined that I had so much fun.
I feel I must single out The Athena Foundation For the Arts. They have consistently brought to under-serviced communities with world-class music and artistry that may not have been possible without their support. I have lived in the North Hollywood area for around 15 years and only just recently, this year, have I had the privilege to be part of such a richly rewarding experience. I look forward to the next concert.
The Solasta Piano Trio performed November 5 at the Community Auditorium in the Church of Scientology.
Next up is The Vieness Piano Duo Holiday Concert on Sunday, December 3.
