The H.E.ART makes their NoHo debut with a creative open house on Sunday, October 27 where children/teens will create a production from start to finish, all in one fun afternoon!
The NoHo motto really should be: “NoHo is only as great as its people.”
The NoHo Arts District is a one-square mile neighborhood that has 20+ theatre, six dance studios, countless recording studios, acting classes every night of the week and so many creative folks making NoHo their home. For the last 20 years, the neighborhood has worked tirelessly to maintain the district as an ARTS district. So it’s a pleasure when an art group with years of industry experience and a love for the arts decides to make NoHo their home. It’s another way we can #KeepNoHoArtsy.
So let’s welcome The H.E.ART to North Hollywood!
What is The H.E.ART?
The H.E.ART is an ackronym for Heartfelt Education through the Arts. Their mission is to provide a healthy, creative environment where aspiring actors, dancers and singers of all ages can feel inspired and empowered to cultivate their talents. As a multicultural performing arts company, The H.E.ART is committed to the development of the diverse youth of Los Angeles.
“At The H.E.ART, we create an experience – a safe place for students to come and learn the performing arts – whether they mean to seek a career in the industry or simply to be able to express themselves creatively, sharing and being creative amongst other like-minded kids, gaining the tools for self-confidence, leadership and camaraderie is very important now that our schools are not funding the arts nor impressing the need for healthy communication.” – Eartha Robinson, Founder, Dance & Movement Instructor
The stellar artistic team is Earth Robinson, founder, dance & movement Instructor, and Vernée Watson, acting instructor. We like to call them the dynamic duo because of their immense repertoire of experience on stage, television and in film. They are experts in their craft. Their dedication to their young artists’ development is just what the NoHo Arts District needs.
We asked them questions about their unique program, arts education process, and what will be at their upcoming open house.

Tell us more about the open house schedule.
We’re excited about our open house. We’ll be starting with a meet and greet at 2:00pm then we’ll split into three groups and begin to rotate through our three classes – voice, dance/movement and acting – to make sure everyone learns a little something but also and very importantly, we want everyone to have fun on this day. We’ll have refreshments, raffles, t-shirt give-a-ways and a Scholarship Award, – everyone will know what our program entails and we’ll have a little showcase presentation at the end. Most importantly, we really want to see a lot of kids and their families all meet each other, experience a day with The H.E.ART and have a wonderful afternoon – it’s going to be a lot of fun!!
Why did you decide to move to NoHo Arts District?
A quick response would be – Our Love For Theatre!
We actually began with a non-profit school many years ago at this very location, (many might remember The Robinson Project Performing Arts Academy) so for us it’s more like we’re returning home. NoHo was always on our radar, due to its high proportion of theatres and dance studios, etc. along with historically being an artistic enclave in general. Our new location at MKM Cultural Arts Centre is right in the centre of things, with easy access to public transport and parking. There are so many wonderful little shops, etc. around here and it really has a bohemian ambience that feeds creativity. We love it!
Tell us more about a typical day at the studio.
Our Lab 1 (Ages 5 – 10) and LAB 2 (Ages 11 and up) start their respective days with floor exercises – warm-up routines to strengthen for the physical requirements in all three of our core disciplines – dance/movement, acting and voice. We rotate the students through these classes during the process using a unique, integrated approach that allows us to bring all of these elements together in a showcase/recital at the end of the course. Our students may not intend to enter the Industry, but they’re learning life lessons that they will carry with them – self-confidence, creative thinking, social interaction, etc.
How would you like to see your studio grow?
We are looking at our five-year plan and would foresee increasing the number of days our classes are available into a full-time program and expanding our current ‘triple threat’ curriculum to include music, visual arts and backstage theatre tech. We want to reach as many future artists as possible and uncover those gems hidden in under-served communities.
Teaching kids the beauty of dance, acting, voice and stage craft is rewarding, right?
Yes! We’ve had some wonderful successes, students who have booked onto stage plays, commercials, TV series and webisodes and continue to grow as artists. But I think our greatest successes come from seeing those students who come into our program and they’re shy, not knowing what to say or being able to express their minds – like amazing little caterpillars that then emerge into glorious butterflies, growing with a heightened self-esteem along with social and learning abilities. Success can be seen when parents come to us and thank us for helping their kids grow and be comfortable in who they are. It takes a village, after all and that’s a very rewarding place to be!
