Sunday-Funday Ideas from Around NoHo

In the North Hollywood area for a weekend? Want to check out what this bustling community of artists has to offer?

The NoHo Arts District, located in the North Hollywood area, is a must-visit community that can spice up your weekend with fun and liveliness. Offerings include dance studios, furniture stores, galleries, and tiny dives. There are also art and acting workshops, a bevy of dining options, and businesses that create art in its myriad forms.

Here are some ideas for spending a fantastic weekend exploring the heart of what the NoHo area has to offer.

Hit up a dance class

Did you know that you can burn up to 300 calories in just 30 minutes of dancing? Even tame forms can be calorie-burning jackpots. But health benefits don’t stop there. A study published in Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience has linked cutting a rug to improved brain function in older adults.

But perhaps you are a spring chicken, and your interest in dance class is because you hope to uncover your latent talent. Want to win the next So You Think You Can Dance? Then dance classes are essential. And no one knows that more than Millennium Dance Complex, a dance studio and home to some of the biggest choreographers to the stars.

The classes range in difficulty levels. So even if you are a beginner or a working dancer, you will find something to suit your needs. Dancing lessons for children and seniors are also available, so all are welcome here.

Feel the filmmaking action

Want to know what it’s like to direct a film? Always wanted to make your own home movie, but don’t know how to get it done? Interested in creating a horror-zombie-unicorn-mermaid-comedy adventure that will rival whatever’s showing now?

Catch up on a film-making workshop and you got it! NoHo Tours offer filmmaking workshops that come in various packages. “Lights, Camera, Action!” is a 4-hour workshop where veteran filmmakers help you create your own movie. Or learn more about a specific filmmaking trade that you are interested in. The Screenwriting Workshop is 2 hours long and teaches you how to write in screenplay style. Instructors will give you constructive criticism on how to get your million-dollar idea out of your head and into words on paper.

Explore the NoHo Farmers Market

We all know eating locally sourced produce and foods is good for the environment. But aside from that (important) reason, local foods mean less time traveling from garden to market, which means fresh! And fresh is best when it comes to taste. Not only that, but also by purchasing from local growers, you are helping to sustain the local economy. Buying from farmers and growers means that they get to keep more of the earnings that otherwise would go to transportation costs.

Many of the farmers and vendors at our NoHo Farmers Market operate family-run farms and businesses. Producing high-quality products is their passion and they stake their reputation on that weekly.

Wandering through the aisles of our weekly farmers market will put you in touch with the heart of our community. And it is a place where you enjoy the freshest produce as well as get a fabulous bite to eat. Artisan vendors offer handcrafted jewelry, unique clothing pieces, and other treasure. Held weekly on Saturday from 9 in the morning to 2 in the afternoon.

Relax at The Federal Bar

Looking for a place to fully unwind from a stressful week? Want a space that is good to chill in but that also provides culinary delights and tasty cocktails? Check out The Federal Bar.

The Federal Bar’s beverage menu has a commanding presence. Craft beer lovers will rejoice at their wide range of 20 craft beers on tap. Their selection includes Stone IPA, Victory Prima Pills, and many other locally-loved favorites. The food offerings are inventive and are a la New American Cuisine. Menu options include IPA spare ribs with a side of melted leeks. Wild Turkey meatballs. Halibut poached in red wine reduction and roasted over root vegetables.

To top it all off, the architecture and interior of the bar provide an ambiance that is perfect for a late Sunday brunch, or an early afternoon of drinks. The roofs are high ceilinged affairs with chandeliers from the turn of the century. Furnishings are dark and hushed. You could melt away the hours as you talk and relax with friends here.
