Steve Cornell’s Some Sweet Dream

A NoHo Arts music review of Steve Cornell’s new release Some Sweet Dream.

[NoHo Arts District, CA] – A NoHo Arts music review of Steve Cornell’s new release Some Sweet Dream.

What a beautiful melodic retro-sweet sound Steve Cornell has! This album is all strumming electric rhythm guitars and achingly lovely vocal harmonies. If you love fifties soul, Americana and rockabilly then you will absolutely adore Some Sweet Dream.

This is a self-produced album, which can sometimes mean “a bit on the rough side.” But not this time! I was very surprised to learn Steve had no help at all. All the harmonies, the instrumentation, the production and the arranging…all a solo effort.

A NoHo Arts music review of Steve Cornell’s new release Some Sweet Dream.

It’s a really wonderfully eclectic mix of sounds all held together by Steve’s vocals and his excellent songwriting ability, rooted in the soul and R&B sound.

He’s clearly been working on these songs for a while, they are so well executed. Clever, poignant, with just enough space to feel spontaneous. The sign of a fantastic arrangement!  Some Sweet Dream is a wonderful foray into the sound of the 50s and 60s from a deeply talented musician with a nuanced, understated style and many stories to tell.

It’s a great party album, upbeat, swinging, gorgeous sound and with a unabashedly hopeful message. Which we all desperately need right now! Loved it!!
