Sines’s “Gravity”

A NoHo Arts music review of Sines’s “Gravity” album.

[NoHo Arts District, CA] – A NoHo Arts music review of Sines’s “Gravity” album.

I reviewed Sines’s album, “A Series of Moments” a couple of years ago. I absolutely loved it. But this new album “Gravity” has a gorgeous fresh sound thanks to the incredible vocals of Kitty Richardson.  Founding member Jason Wann has always believed that Sines sound should have a female voice…and now I think he was right. Kitty Richardson’s beautiful crystal clear sound and effortless range elevate this brilliant enigmatic retro music.

Thirteen tracks!!! Is it my imagination or are albums getting longer and longer?? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining, at least not about Sines…Kitty is from Leeds, UK and Jason is based in Portland and they have yet to meet. How romantic.  I think it gives this highly emotional electronica music an even more intimate feeling. It’s as if they are on different planets, only connected through interfaces and long-range sensors and the ever-changing mycorrhizal network of the universe.

The tracks are all techno based, but with Kitty’s intense sound, like warm ice, they become more poetic, emotional, poignant and acutely commercial. Jason Wann’s gorgeous lyrics tell the story of a man navigating a neurotypical world with the soul of an autistic space poet. He unfolds his life like a flower opening and with Kitty’s searingly authentic voice filling the sounds he makes with meaning and purpose, their partnership is something utterly unforgettable.

How incredible is it that today I listened to musical artists who have created something new together. Something unique and yet somehow familiar…which is what makes it excellent. A connection instantly made from the very first note…as if you have always had this music in your mind and they are simply unlocking it for you….just wonderful. I think this is my music for the years end. Sines’s “Gravity” is art…no doubt they will make more of this spectacular music and I literally can’t wait. Meantime I’m putting “Gravity” on a loop!!! I absolutely, love love Sines’s “Gravity.”
