[NoHo Arts District, CA] – A NoHo Arts theatre review of Emily Blackwell’s solo show Show ‘Em Your Best with Tensil Newbottom! at the Hollywood Fringe Festival 2024.
Hollywood Fringe is back in town and I for one am ready to go. I had the great pleasure, for my first show this year, to watch a powerful and talented performer, Emily Blackwell. Show ‘Em Your Best is a whirlwind of nonstop laughs with some sprinklings of motivational musings. As soon as the lights go out and reappear, we are greeted by the high-energy life coach, Tensil Newbottom.
This motivational speaker/ guru of sorts is committed to the concept of belief in one’s self by using an (almost) unpronounceable acronym. Which I will not reveal at this time so as to not spoil the fun. The show is immersive, interactive, and inspirational. Ms Blackwell is seemingly possessed by Tensil and her commitment to character is hilariously complete.
The theatre was sold out and the audience was completely mesmerized by Tensil Newbottom. She brought a number of audience members on stage to help her illustrate af few of her finer points of being your best. Every point was a hit and the audience responded likewise. I have to admit was completely hypnotised by the talent of Emily Blackwell. I couldn’t help thinking of Gilda Radner and Madeline Kahn as soul sisters to the talent of Emily Blackwell. My only complaint is that the show didn’t last another hour. Brava Tensil. You showed me your best.
