The NoHo Motto should really be: “NoHo is only as great as its people.”

Meet Mary Jerejian. She works with the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health, is an online master’s student at Cal State University, Northridge, and she interns in Councilman Krekorian’s NoHo Arts District office.

Mary launched Shop4Seniors, a grocery shopping service for seniors during COVID-19. She noticed a need after visiting her grandparents in North Hollywood and hearing their fears on the virus.

Seniors give Mary their contact information, where they typically shop and their shopping list. Then Mary or one of her volunteers shop for the groceries and deliver them directly to the senior.

How can people volunteer?

People are able to volunteer by sending me an email at with their name, reimbursement options for purchasing groceries, and the areas they are willing to deliver to.

What are some safety precautions for volunteers?

In regards to safety precautions, I want to make sure that we are still following the recommended precautions given by the healthcare organizations. Volunteers are required to wear masks, and leave the groceries at the door. If the senior is reimbursing with cash or check, they will leave it by the door or in a mailbox when the volunteer lets them know that they have arrived.

What do seniors need the most? Seniors who contact Shop4Seniors have varied items on their grocery lists. Many of them have health concerns so we need to make sure the grocery lists are specific for the volunteers to get the right items.

How can seniors sign up?

Seniors can sign up by emailing me with their name, address, and grocery list! From there, I will set them up with a volunteer.

Anything you’d like to highlight?

Additions: this is a great way for the younger population to connect with our elderly populations! It builds community despite the circumstances.
