A review of Serious Sam Barrett’s “The Seeds of Love” album.
English born Folk singer Sam Barrett is a Yorkshire lad through and through. Serious Sam Barrett’s “The Seeds of Love” album is made up of songs taken from the book of the same name. Published by the English Folk Music and Dance Society, the songs are traditional folk songs with subjects ranging from love, loss, hope and misguided deeds.
“The Seeds of Love” album is a beautiful interpretation of these wonderful old and well-loved songs.
But, sung with Sam Barrett’s raw honest voice echoing the regional roots and the deep true heart of these songs, it’s more poetry than anthems. I can imagine a hush falling across the local pub as he begins to sing and play.
Serious Sam Barrett is a brilliant folk guitarist and he picks a mean banjo. These songs yearn for the kind of earnest, honest and hauntingly skillful musician that he is. He has earned his stellar reputation as folk singer by playing his own songs as well as traditional folks songs on his 12 string guitar and trusty banjo. He releasing his album through Ya Dig! Records, a not for profit label run by volunteers devoted to real music.

This is a truly gorgeous album. Beautiful vocals, brilliant music all sincerely sung. The art of folk music lives on in Serious Sam Barrett. What a treat to find someone like him in this big bad world.
