Salon Magnolia! Q&A

Salon Magnolia! arrives at The Sherry Theatre in NoHo on September 6

[NoHo Arts District, CA] – On Saturday, September 6, kTVision presents Salon Magnolia! at The Sherry Theater – a one-night showcase with curated performances, artist interviews, and behind-the-scenes moments..

You heard it, folks! A one-night-only, two-show event with the very creative people of kTVision – Salon Magnolia!

This type of show is so intriguing isn’t it? I see so many plays and a huge variety of shows. However, Salon Magnolia has about it an air of exclusivity. A curated, niche event. Something different, something special and strange in a sea of good and a little predictable.

NoHo is the perfect setting for what feels like a kind of variety show, which is fairly unique in theatre these days…even for NoHo! So I had a few questions for Katy Monahan Huntley the brains behind kTVision and the producer of Salon Magnolia!

Hi Katy! Tell us about yourself and why you love theatre?

I am the Editor and Publisher of Write Between the Lines and the commotion behind kTVision Stage Productions:  Elephants Fall From the Sky and Salon Magnolia!

From tales of my “Glamma,” Bow Bow—a Boston society girl who, against her parents’ wishes, left the exclusive Bennett School to sign a theatre contract with New York producers—to my own parents’ love of all things show, I have always been enthralled by live stage performances.

What inspired you to create Salon Magnolia?

Several years after the successful production of Elephants Fall From the Sky, the idea was floated to reunite the cast and crew for another show. And yes—it was a 5:00 A.M. after-party decision. 😉

Why did you choose NoHo and The Sherry Theater?

Many of us are denizens of NoHo, deeply obsessed with the Arts. Scott Haze graciously allowed us to premiere Elephants at The Sherry shortly after the 2020 pandemonium, and he welcomed us back again for Salon Magnolia!

How did you select the artists and performers for the evening?

“The Socialites” are a talented tight knit crew of family and friends, and whomever in the crowd I asked—they said, “Yes.”  New friends who were not part of the Elephants were thrilled to weave into the lore.  The experience stands as a true test and testament to our friendship.

What should audiences expect to experience and take away from the evening?

The title references “salon” in both senses: an informal gathering of creatives, and the literal setting—a beauty salon on Magnolia Blvd.  The narrative adapts interviews from Write Between the Lines about the early ’80s punk rock scene, interwoven with a rom-com play-within-a-play, plus poetry, music, song, and dance—all brought to the stage this September 6th.

We invite the audience to “Join us . . . in a space beyond time.
A place for dreamers & non-believers, rebels & saints.  Coming together through a series of kismet events to offer audiences small distractions, and the grace to indulge.  Join us in transporting you to “Salon Magnolia!”

Why only one day and two chances to see this?

Salon Magnolia! is both a passion project and a labor of love. Though we juggle our day jobs as working artists, we are delighted to announce that the show will be filmed for future viewings.  I’m also crafting the backdrop as a graphic design–driven multimedia narrative, containing photos, videos, texts, emails, and other ephemera.

Will there be more Salon Magnolia?

Never say never—though if it did happen, it would roll out as an entirely new set of stories.

Can you tell us anything more that will entice our NoHo audience?

Upon arrival, guests will be greeted with champagne, flow into the tunnel of shimmering lights, and glide through the door of Salon Magnolia!  Tickets are $20, or $25 to enter our raffle for in-kind prizes from local sponsors.

Please tell us anything you would like to add about the Salon Magnolia!

Through curated showcases, interviews, and behind-the-scenes glimpses, we amplify unique voices and give artists the spotlight they deserve. Whether emerging or established, every performer has a story worth sharing — and Salon Magnolia! is where it unfolds.

So there we have it! Something very special this way comes…
