“It’s Time” is full of glorious, classic, soulful jazz, with more than a little funk.
Rose Ann Dimalanta’s gorgeous vocals anchor this fabulous sound. The melodious bass of Raymond McKinley and sublime drums of Massimo Buonanno lift, syncopate and playfully guide Dimalanta’s stories of love and memory. Her beautiful, subtle and sultry keyboards seem to have a life of their own as she sings.
This trio has a phenomenal musical background, once you hear the album it’s pretty clear they are at the peak of their game. Rose Ann Dimalanta is a former Prince musician from 2003-2004, Musicology tour, Grammys 2004 performance with Prince and Beyonce. Bass player Raymond has worked and toured with some of the biggest names in the gospel and soul genre (Patti Labelle, Tower of Power, Sheila E., Rachelle Ferrell, George Duke, Tony! Toni! Toné!, En Vogue among many others). Drummer Massimo is one of the most in demand drummers in Europe and is owner and producer of Lucky Tiger Productions (Switzerland).
The trio formed in 2016 and creating this sound has been a labor of love for them all. If there is one word that describes this album, in fact, for me it would be love – love of music, love of life, love of performing and love of each other…it all sounds like love.
There’s gospel here, and silky soul as well as the jazz and funk, but nothing overpowers anything else. It’s all perfectly balanced but in a way that allows for soaring and waves of musical goodness. Nothing bland here! It’s the gentle, beautiful, memorable kind of music that happens when a group really clicks. When they are all working to the same goal, in the same direction, that’s when magic happens. This album is absolute magic, shiny, glossy, funky, heartfelt magic.
