From our friends at the the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition (LACBC):
“LACBC has been working on getting bike lanes on Lankershim Blvd., a major commercial corridor, transit hub, and cultural center of the NoHo Arts District. For years LACBC has been actively promoting and engaging the public about the benefits of installing bike lanes on Lankershim Blvd. Since 2012 we have led two bike rides that drew over 100 people each, conducted over a dozen tabling events at the North Hollywood station and Farmer’s Market, hosted events on Lankershim and distributed bike lights to commuters who were not visible at night through our Operation Firefly program. The community’s support has been overwhelming, reflecting a heightened interest in biking coupled with frustration over lack of facilities. Through our outreach we have collected signatures of over 2,000 local stakeholders and over 30 businesses who support installing bike lanes on Lankershim.
The City of Los Angeles Great Streets Initiative, in partnership with Councilmember Paul Krekorian, is developing a vision for the future of Lankershim Blvd. from the North Hollywood Red Line station (Chandler Blvd) to Victory Blvd. The City is planning to resurface the entire stretch in Summer of 2017 after a multi-year DWP project completes along the corridor. This is a great opportunity for community members to provide input to connect gaps in the current bike lane network. The City has been collecting input from community stakeholders and is planning to release a concept by January 2017. For the first time since we started the Ride Lankershim campaign in 2012, the City has a budget and political support to realize these long-awaited improvements happen.
Today, we are asking you two things to make bike lanes on Lankershim happen.
1. Come join us for a ride at a community pop-up event on Lankershim between Weddington and Magnolia, which includes a pop-up protected bike lane demo. Join LACBC San Fernando Valley Neighborhood Bike Ambassadors to ride on Lankershim and show our broad support for making Lankershim safer for all! The “Tour of North Hollywood” ride will feature historic sites of NoHo Arts District and highlight some of the bike improvements made in the community in recent years.
WHEN:
December 03, 2016 at 10am – 12pm
WHERE:

We hope to see you there on December 3rd!”
