Red Bird Rising’s “My Revolution” (ft Taras Kuznetsov)

[NoHo Arts District, CA] – A NoHo Arts music review of Red Bird Rising’s “My Revolution” (ft Taras Kuznetsov).

Featuring artist from Colombia, Argentina, the United States and Ukraine, “My Revolution” is a song written by Minneapolis-born musician and producer Diedrich Donald Weiss, now living in Colombia, as a direct response to the illegal Russian invasion of Ukraine. It is an answer to the question he asked himself, “what can I do?” An artist can create. A driven, inventive artist can connect with others, inspire and,, with vision, produce something that feels more than a cry into the darkness.

“My Revolution” is a brilliant song. Beautifully produced with purpose and soul and poetic urgency. There were bombs literally falling as this song was being recorded. 

The incredible vocalist and bass player are Tara Kuznetsov and Ana Pshokina. They recorded their parts in their home studio in Ukraine during the ongoing invasion and in defiance of the war on their people and their country.

The rest of the musicians recorded their own parts in Argentina, the US and Colombia in a heartfelt patchwork of unity and love. 

You can hear this love in every note. You can feel the respect and the hope from this group of exceptional musicians. It’s a surprisingly gentle song, peaceful almost. 

Opening as it does with the sounds of Ukraine and their resistance, it seems to reject the obvious anger. There’s a thoughtfulness to every note, no desperation, no violence. There’s an honesty too, with the call to arms, the thoughts of fleeing, before this young man who sings is handed a gun. 

We can only imagine what it must be like for these proud beautiful people living day to day, never knowing what will come next or how they will cope. But their love for each other and their determination to rise above this assault is inspiring.  

Tara’s voice, husky, pure and authentic sounds like Ukraine. Strong, deep and full of character. 

It reminds us that the people of this ancient land aren’t going anywhere…it’s our duty to support them and share their burden and to never forget.  This is a truly gorgeous and miraculous song…
