Music has a long tradition of political rhetoric.
These days it’s hard to find anyone without an opinion of what’s currently going on in our country, but some are doing a little more than just ranting. Paul Maged has written a protest song, “The Resistance” and it’s not just opinion and clever lyrics, it’s really excellent, hard driving, toe-tapping, head-banging rock.
With echos of Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam and the best kind of Billy Joel, “The Resistance” is a call to arms, a celebration of the freedom to speak, or in this case, sing your mind. He holds nothing back, his pain and anger in every word, his determination to resist, to fight and to survive victorious, with catchy phrasing ripped straight from the headlines.
He uses his gorgeous, intense voice to raise the stakes in every verse, fully supported with brilliant guitar riffs and punchy rhythms. This track sounds like the opening to a rock opera, revolution in the air, full on character assassination, inspiring anthemic roaring. It’s quite the action exhortation and just gets better and better with each play…I’m a believer!!
