I reviewed Patrick Ames EP release last year, “Liveness,” which was a lovely collection of intimate, vivid and beautifully raw songs, all colliding nicely together.
“Reawakened” is something along those lines too, although it has a more urgent feel, I think. Written as a call to poetic arms. A cry for us to gather together and reject the hate that circulates so easily these days.
But it’s not a peace song exactly. With its gospel beat and punchy delivery, “Reawakening” is an anthem, a rousing rhythmic belter of a song. The layers of harmony not timid, but rather powerful. The repeating driving guitar, the inspiring breakdown, the signature live feel, all coming together to shake us awake and demand our attention.
Patrick Ames turned to Jon Ireson to remix and reenergize the original version of this track and the result is a catchy, bluesy, soulful rock song with a hopeful message, “the good in us all is about to be released.” It’s a charming mixture of The Rolling Stones and and Nick Cave. A rejection of the status quo and a call to vote! Not a bad reason to make music!! More, please!
