This beautifully written album is a mixture of Spanish and English songs from this lovely young Ecuadorian singer songwriter.
Oriana Setz has established herself as a huge part of the independent Latinx music movement known as “AlterLatino.”
Already an award-winning artist, the Akademia Music Awards awarded her “Best Song Latin” and “Best Song Cover/Pop” in 2019. Her soulful voice is breathlessly authentic and it’s no surprise that she was granted a full scholarship to study vocal performance and songwriting at Berklee College of Music, as well as a scholarship award from the Mediterranean Music Institute at Berklee.
These songs are gently commercial. Full of evocative phrases and gorgeous arrangements, the brilliant musicians never over shadowing Orina’s warm, powerful voice. Her songs are full of humor and biographical, anecdotal stories. She is discovering herself in these songs, and her honesty is refreshing and very sweetly wrought. I hear Florence and the Machine, Birdy, perhaps a little Alanis Morissette.
I love that she sings in Spanish and English. She seems to have a foot in both worlds and perhaps she always should. Her voice is evocative and passionate, her songs empowering and wise. I can tell she has much more for us, so many more songs, so much further to push herself….can’t wait to hear whats next!
