Meet JNelle and Luckie from Old School Skinny - a 90s cardio dance experience.

Old School Skinny returns to the NoHo Arts District on February 22 with a pop-up cardio dance class and then every Wednesday at 7PM at Evolution Studios.

The unofficial NoHo motto is: “NoHo is only as great as its people.” This winter we are highlighting some of our awesome creative neighbors in the NoHo Arts District. This week features the couple JNelle and Luckie from Old School Skinny, a North Hollywood-based cardio dance experience that takes you back with some fresh 90s jams and a seriously fun workout.

So what is Old School Skinny?

Old School Skinny is a 90s cardio fitness class that was born out of love. Our initial goal was to get JNelle’s mom to work out so she could lose weight for a knee surgery. We wanted to create an inviting environment that combined moves that make us sweat with all the throwback music we love.

Do you have to be a professional dancer?

Not at all! Our students are from all backgrounds, dance levels and ages. We’ve had everyone from 4 – 84 tearing it up on the dance floor. OSS is a fun challenge for students because we break down the steps so it’s easy to follow. The rest is up to you!!

Why did you choose to bring your classes to Evolution Studios in NoHo?

Evolution is made for artists by artists. The energy there is magnetic and makes everyone feel welcome. Being immersed in the buzz of the local dance community when you’re about walk into class is exciting for people who don’t get to experience that. There’s plenty of parking, its a beautiful facility and the staff is amazing.

Do you have a playlist?

Every week we create a handpicked playlist on Spotify that features all the best throwback jams and new music; giving students the best of both worlds. You can access and listen to all of our playlists on the Spotify app by searching our profile “Old School Skinny.”

How did you two meet?

We met the Old School way; through friends. We actually just did an interview for Voyage LA where we tell a little bit of the story and dive into becoming parents all the while continuing to provide an impactful dance outlet during the pandemic.  You can access and listen to all of our playlists on the Spotify app by searching our profile “Old School Skinny.”
