North Hollywood Woman Is Conquering Her Dreams in Her 70s

In NoHo, age has no relevance to fulfilling your dreams, just ask Angela McEwan

There are those who will simply exist, and then there are those who will truly live and thrive.

Angela McEwan, a resident of the NoHo Senior Arts Colony Apartment Community, is one of the latter.

As a woman in her seventies, you wouldn’t expect to find McEwan chasing down auditions and landing roles in popular TV shows, much less an Oscar nominated film. But that’s exactly what she’s doing.

Recently appearing in the Oscar nominated film “Nebraska,” McEwan decided to seize her retirement years and pursue a lifelong childhood dream of becoming an actress. In addition to her recent film success, McEwan has appeared on “Days of Our Lives,” “New Girl,” and “Parks and Recreation,” among others.

Although life’s circumstances took her on a long path to get there, McEwan eventually found her dream realized.

Born in Los Angeles, McEwan spent her childhood idolizing Shirley Temple and dreaming of the day when she would see her own face on the big screen.

Throughout her youth and well into adulthood, she acted in community theatre every chance she got, and studied theatre arts at UCLA before she headed off to study Spanish in Guadalajara.

Soon after returning from Guadalajara, McEwan met her husband.

“Before I knew it, I was married, raising two children and spending the next twenty-three years working as an interpreter for the Long Beach Courthouse,” she quips.

While she loved her family and her job, there was always a small piece missing.

“I always had a love affair with acting,” she says.

This love affair never subsided, and when she retired she knew that she had to seize the opportunity.

In order to do so, she knew she needed to move closer to potential auditions and truly dedicate herself to her craft. She decided to move to North Hollywood and found herself inspired by a small community, known as the NoHo Senior Arts Colony Apartments.

“It was here that I was able to truly delve into my acting career,” McEwan says, explaining that she immediately found herself actively engaged and passionate about something she had been dreaming of since a child.

McEwan is truly the star in her own series, and the embodiment of the never ending journey of self-re-invention. She proves that at any age the possibilities are limitless, and that it is never too late to start chasing dreams.
