The whole family knows about Uncle Jay because careless grown-ups allowed him to be around children. Barbara never understood why he was the way he was. Could there be something in his house that’ll explain it? As it happens, there is. And his porn stash is not the strangest thing she finds in there.
My Dead Uncle’s Porn Collection explores family secrets from an unusual perspective. It’s the story of what happens when an abuse survivor becomes the in-case-of-emergency person for the person who violated them as a child. Why does she do it? Partly out of charity. (You don’t just leave a sick, elderly relative hanging out there.) Partly out of self-interest. (She owns half his house.)
Brady’s 60-minute show approaches a sensitive subject with alacrity and compassion. My Dead Uncle’s Porn Collection is about bringing long-held family secrets to light. It’s about dealing with the damage done by a dysfunctional family and coming through it with grace and humor.

Barbara Brady is a writer, performer and visual artist based in the San Francisco Bay Area. My Dead Uncle’s Porn Collection was developed with David Ford at two of the Bay Area’s premier performance series: The Marsh, and Solo Sundays at Stage Werx. Brady’s first solo show, Father, Daughter & Holy Toast played at numerous fringe festivals, including Orlando International Theater Festival, Cincinnati Fringe Festival, and Rogue Performance Festival earning laudatory reviews.
