About NoHo Pride Film Fest

Join the City of Los Angeles, Department of Cultural Affairs in collaboration with the Los Angeles LGBT Center, Valley of the Stars Film Society, and Drag Arts Lab for a celebration of LGBTQIA+ cinema at the first-ever NoHo Pride Film Fest! From June 4 through June 7, the Lankershim Arts Center will host a diverse lineup of films that explore the many facets of queer identity, history, and culture. Get ready for a fantastic mix of horror, comedy and drama – all to celebrate Pride!

Those under 17 years of age require an accompanying parent or adult guardian to attend the films, as they contain some adult content.

A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge

Directed by Jack Sholder, written by David Chaskin and Wes Craven, with performances by Robert Englund, Mark Patton, and Kim Myers, New Line Cinema, 1985, 87 minutes.
Despite a lukewarm reception upon its 1985 release, Freddy’s Revenge has since been embraced by the gay community as a cult classic for its unique blend of 80’s slasher meets campy queer subtext.

Tangerine

Directed by Sean Baker, written by Sean Baker and Chris Bergoc, performances by Kitana Kiki Rodriguez, Mya Taylor, and Karren Karagulian, Magnolia Pictures, 2015, 88 minutes.
Shot entirely on iPhones, this groundbreaking film follows two transgender sex workers in Los Angeles as they navigate love, betrayal, and friendship. From ANORA director Sean Baker, this modern classic is a raw and real portrayal of life on the streets.

Directed by Emma Seligman, written by Emma Seligman and Rachel Sennott, with performances by Rachel Sennott, Ayo Edebiri, and Ruby Cruz, Orion Pictures, 2023, 91 minutes.
This heartwarming, hilarious and unapologetically raunchy queer comedy about two high school seniors who start a fight club to impress cheerleaders brings together feminist energy and plenty of laughs in a teen movie that’s anything but ordinary.

Every Body

Directed by Julie Cohen, performances by Sean Saifa Wall, Alicia Roth Weigel, and River Gallo, Better Than Fiction Productions and NBC News Studios, 2023, 92 minutes.                                            Every Body is a bold and eye-opening documentary that dives deep into the lives and experiences of intersex individuals, shedding light on the often overlooked intersection of gender and biology. This film offers an essential perspective on body autonomy, identity, and acceptance.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show with Live Shadow Cast 

Directed by Jim Sharman, written by Richard O’Brien and Jim Sharman, with performances by Tim Curry, Susan Saradon, and Barry Bostwick, Twentieth Century Fox, 1975, 100 minutes.                                  

Enjoy the midnight movie classic – at a reasonable hour.  Audience participation is highly encouraged – come sing along with our shadow cast–Beth Stockton, Sof Cohen, Rory Gill-Smith, Midknight Desires, Ben Oduro, Lizzie Spellman, Westly Monroe, Johnny Gentleman, Corey Void Harkins, and Danielle Lajoie Co-Directed by Jonnie Reinhart–as they perform on stage in this special presentation of this cult musical.

Whether you’re a fan of campy horror, heartfelt drama, or just love a good sing-along, the NoHo Pride Film Fest promises to be a vibrant and diverse celebration of queer cinema. Come for the films, stay for the community, and celebrate Pride in true cinematic style!

All screenings are free and open to the public.  RSVP tickets are recommended as seating is limited.  Should screenings sell out, they will also offer a standby line to fill seats five minutes before the designated start time.
