NoHo Neighborhood Council Board Member Jo Ann Rivas Makes Safety & Schools a Priority

Jo Ann Rivas has a passion for educating the NoHo community on safety, especially schools.

She is the current School Representative of the NoHo Neighborhood Council and Chair of the Communications Committee for CPAB. Last month, Jo Ann arranged the CPAB and NHPD first quarterly safety meeting at Lankershim Elementary School in North Hollywood.

Senior Lead Officer John Catalano and Senior Lead Officer Jennifer Duvally gave a presentation about crime in the area, while parents and kids of Lankershim Elementary School actively participated in the discussion and Q&A segment. The meeting had a great turnout!

CPAB and NHPD conduct safety meeting for neighborhood watches etc. It’s to discuss the crime in that particular area. But as a school rep, I wanted to bring this concept to the schools. The principal of Lankershim said he’d love to host such a meeting. We did and it went well. The parents and kids got involved with the discussion and they agreed they’d like to do it again, said Rivas.”

Rivas has plans to expand the concept of hosting safety meetings at all the schools in the district. If any principals or school admin are interested they can email her at joann.gilbert.rivas@gmail.com

Special thanks to all who were involved in making our community safe, including Lenore Ruiz, who interpreted the meeting. Congratulations Jo Ann and thanks for representing the NoHo Neighborhood Council.
