NoHo Is Getting Fringey

NoHo Arts District & Surrounding San Fernando Valley To Hold Second Annual Fringe Festival

As an area with one of the highest concentrations of live-performance theatres outside of New York CIty, the North Hollywood (NoHo) and surrounding San Fernando Valley communities offer a wide variety of entertainment options for theatre-goers looking for everything from classics to new works to the completely unpredictable.

This fall, the theatre and artistic community comes together to again highlight their productions, performances, and talents in the 2016 NoHo Fringe Festival from October 12 through November 14.

Stage plays, one-person shows, sketch, improv, & stand-up comedy, storytelling, musicals, dance, Halloween-themed shows, and even short or feature length film screenings are all welcome as part of the festival – and audiences love every bit of it.

“We have a vibrant and fun artistic community, and we’re fortunate to have the support of so many patrons who come to see shows and enjoy the restaurants & shops near the theatres. The Fringe Festival increases the visibility of our entertainment offerings and helps bring new audiences to events here,” says Nancy Bianconi, publisher of NoHoArtsDistrict.com, a high-traffic website that serves as the primary hub of online activity and promotions for the area.

The festival began in 2015 as a grassroots effort to showcase the great work that is routinely part of quality productions in the NoHo and surrounding Valley areas. As it grows, organizers hope the festival will evolve to include more venues, more productions, and more performers from other places.

Festival director Dan Kane says “We chose the ‘Fringe’ concept because there’s such a long history of fringe fests around the country and around the world where the focus is much less about the structure of the event and much more about performers and audiences just coming together to enjoy the experience, whatever it may be. It’s the freedom to present performance art without wondering if it ‘fits in’ with the festival – because everything fits in.”

“We’re proud and thrilled to have the support & participation of so many for whom the NoHo and Valley area is an artistic home, and at the same time we welcome producers, performers, and patrons from other places to join us in discovering all that the NoHo community has to offer,” added Kane.

Registration is now open for productions of any size or number of performances, at www.NoHoFringe.org, where the online Fringe Guide will list all performance and venue information during the festival.
