[NoHo Arts District, CA] – A NoHo Arts theatre review of My Beautiful Midlife Crisis, written and performed by Lisa Needham, developed and directed by Jessica Lynn Johnson at The Hudson Theatre.

Lisa Needham is truly a force of nature. A singer, a songwriter and a consummate storyteller, this newly developed show, My Beautiful Midlife Crisis, gives her full reign to show off her many, many talents.

Centered around the resounding shock of reaching midlife, in crises and in menopause, Lisa hilariously recounts her own personal struggles and survival through what can be the absolute worst time is a woman’s life….I can totally relate!

Lisa Needham is a brilliant performer. She has the kind of poise and presence that many wish for. Statuesque and lovely, bold and graceful and fierce. She is an Amazon, a goddess, a warrior and I want her on my side when the sh*t hits the fan.

As she navigates her way through these last couple of years, covid, isolation, and the dreaded flush of life, she walks us through her own self discovery – or rediscovery. We all get lost in the minutiae of life. The details, the dramas and the drudgery. It’s easy enough to lose our shine and forget where we put our mojo.  Lisa might seem like someone who has it all together, but it’s clear she had more than a few moments where she most certainly did not.

Lisa has been an entertainer all her life. Starting out in New York as an actress and singer, she has spent many years developing her own style and finesse.

One of the reasons this show works so well because of her amazing stage confidence.  Lisa is utterly fearless and totally believable as a performer, which is vital in the solo show arena.

An audience can smell a fake a mile away and Lisa is anything but that. She is authentic and so open that you cannot help but get caught up in her world. She softens as she unfolds her life, and as the show progresses becomes more vulnerable, more aware of her own mortality, and more able to laugh at what life throws her way.

It takes an expert entertainer, like Lisa Needham, to turn pain and untetheredness into something purposeful and compelling and ultimately healing for all.

My Beautiful Midlife Crisis is a wonderful show. Full of humor, poignant moments and helmed by a skilled storyteller ready to share her life lessons and cunning insights.  I hope Lisa performs this again in L.A., I would highly recommend that you see it if you get the chance…maybe Fringe 2023???
