[NoHo Arts District, CA] – Meet the vibrant North Hollywood artist Lynnda Rakos. You’ll see where art, color and pop culture meet in her work! Our NoHo Artist Feature is a way to highlight the visual artists who call NoHo home.
The NoHo Arts District is just one-square mile but what we do in this one-square-mile makes us a vibrant and creative neighborhood. Although we are known for our performing arts, visual artists comprise a significant portion of our community. Our NoHo Artist Feature hopes to encourage local establishments to incorporate more art and murals on their walls and open their doors to more art events. So, we think more people should meet Kaveh Taherian, one of our neighborhood’s unique creators.
A little background on Lynnda Rakos
I pursued my passion for art by studying graphic design at college in Montreal, Canada. Upon graduating, I relocated to Los Angeles, where I expanded my creative horizons by working as a children’s clothing designer. This experience not only honed my design skills but also deepened my understanding of color, form, and the playful aspects of creativity, all of which continue to influence my artistic practice today.
How would you describe your art?
Immersed in the world of high-octane color and unapologetic self-expression, my art is a bold exploration of the glamour and controversy that surrounds celebrities. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Old Hollywood icons like Elizabeth Taylor, the edgy cool of Elton John, and the unapologetic sass of Taylor Swift, I capture the complexity and intrigue of these larger-than-life figures in imaginative and unexpected ways. Born in Montreal, I’m a product of the city’s vibrant cultural landscape, where mid-century art, graphic design, and the ever-changing currents of pop culture converge. My fascination with the intersection of art and pop culture is mirrored in my own creative interests, from collecting vintage toy robots to experimenting with the sleek, metallic textures that remind me of those retro-futuristic toys – the perfect canvas for my vibrant, expressive art.
Do you have a favorite piece (s)?
I have a few favourite pieces. All my Spaceship Betty paintings and with my pop art pieces my favourite one is the “Empress of the Garden.”

What are you working on now?
I’m working together with a friend on a book of Cat Haikus. As well as a book on the adventures of Spaceship Betty.
What would be your dream project(s)?
My dream project would be a Spaceship Betty movie or TV show.
What advice would you give to a child who shows artistic talent?
1. Practice Regularly
2. Explore Different Mediums
3. Stay Curious
4. Create Fearlessly
9. Keep a Sketchbook
6. Visit Museums and Galleries and explore art in books or online if you don’t have access to museums.
10. And most of all Have Fun

I love living in the NoHo Arts District because of its prime location—it’s conveniently close to Hollywood, Beverly Hills, and the beach. What I appreciate most is the neighborhood’s quieter atmosphere compared to the bustling city, which makes it a perfect retreat. The emerging restaurant scene adds to the vibrant local culture, offering plenty of exciting dining options. Additionally, the community is filled with so many creative individuals, which fosters a wonderful artistic environment. I also feel relatively safe here, making it a comfortable place to live and work.
What would you like to see more of in the NoHo Arts District?
It would be fantastic to see more galleries, cafes, and venues emerge in the NoHo Arts District, providing opportunities for local artists to showcase their work. Having a platform for creatives to share their talents would not only enrich the community but also contribute to the neighborhood’s unique character. Perhaps we could even see the establishment of a monthly art walk or regular exhibitions, where residents and visitors can come together to appreciate and celebrate the diverse artistic voices in the area. This would be a wonderful way to foster a sense of connection and creativity, making the NoHo Arts District an even more vibrant and inspiring place to live and visit.
