At One Fitness offers Mindful Meditation classes starting in January.
The lovely Robin Hart, who owns and runs At One Fitness in NoHo, had a bit of an epiphany recently. Since founding her gym, and over the past six years, Robin has become more and more interested in the healing power of meditation. At One Fitness offers, martial arts, strength training, personal training and yoga, so it seemed to her a natural next step to incorporate the knowledge and training she has accumulated in meditation into a new six-week class. Robin came to meditation for herself through struggle with anxiety and depression and since that difficult time she has used meditation as a tool to help manage her busy life. As a professional dancer for more than 20 years, life and work has taken its toll and she has recently had double hip surgery. Learning about meditation helped her through her own physical and mental healing journey and she wants to share her discoveries with us all.
“Working out our minds is as important as working out our bodies,” Robin told me.
The mindfulness meditation that Robin has studied isn’t about switching off – it’s about switching on our minds. When our minds become more aware they become more focused and more able to help us to not only cope with everyday life but to excel at it! Our minds are also the source of healing for our bodies, and as we develop our ability to treat ourselves more kindly, we can utilize those new found skills in every aspect of our lives.
The course Robin is offering runs every Sunday night over six weeks and will teach you all the basics of Mindful Meditation and help you develop a home practice based on following the teachings of Jack Kornfield, Jon Kabat-Zinn, Trudy Goodman, Insight LA and many others pioneers in the mediation field.
Robin hopes that through her six-week course participants can learn each step of mediation from the basics of breathing to learning how to focus our power purposefully and positively. With these valuable and life-long abilities, participants can apply what they learn every single day.
It’s easy to read about a thing rather than to do it. Aren’t we all guilty of that from time to time? But to take some moments from our day to really heal ourselves, to focus our minds and to become more ‘us’, that would be a revelation…and a one a long time coming.
Meditation is, at its root, a reminder that we are all imperfectly perfect. We are all in need of kindness and forgiveness, especially from ourselves. Mindfulness can help us be better -better humans, better parents, better partners, a better individual to make a better whole. The world is hard enough. I for one am thoroughly looking forward to beginning this class in January and finding myself again.
The classes begin on Sunday, January 6th, 5pm – 6pm. The cost will be $150. Space is limited so please call now to sign up!
