This is a wonderful improvised musical adventure show for kids. Although I am very, very far from being a kid, I absolutely loved it too!!
Mac Duffy and his friends, a beautifully boisterous and wildly creative group of a half dozen or so young actors, are experts in improvisation in both acting and singing. They build a classic adventure story around whatever answers the children in the audience give to their very specific questions. Then they expertly weave this story around songs that they also improvise. It’s quite magical.
The kids in the audience were absolutely transfixed and many of them, even the very shiest among them, ended up on the stage themselves. The subject matter is all very, very sweet and funny and squeaky clean and 100 % focused on the kids. It’s an hour spent with people who clearly love what they do and who they do it for. It’s artful and inspired and touching and hilarious. I loved every second of “Adventures of Mac Duffy & Friends” and so did the rest of the audience.
Children’s theatre can be a bit of a crapshoot frankly. But this show is by far the best I’ve seen. It’s also the most musical. Mac Duffy acts as a conductor as he playfully manipulates the story and the cast and brings it all gloriously together, with so much love and fun.
I highly recommend “Adventure of Mac Duffy & Friends.” It’s brilliant fun on a Saturday morning at the Secret Rose in NoHo. Your kids will love it and so will you!
