
[NoHo Arts District, CA] – Luminario Ballet sallies forth with the festive “Masquerade Macabre” featuring three ballet premieres and excerpted ballet works choreographed by artistic director Judith FLEX Helle.
Dust off your zombie apocolypse outfit, your Count Vlad cape, or your Giselle ghost gown and get ready for “Masquerade Macabre” with Master of Ceremonies Grasan Kingsberry (Emmy Award-winning Broadway veteran of 11 shows, including “The Color Purple” and “Motown,” Professor of Dance for Musical Theater at USC Glorya Kaufman School of Dance.)


What:
“Masquerade Macabre” will feature three premieres and excerpts from four ballets.
Presenting Three Premieres:
“Witch Tango”
An aerial dance piece by Bianca Sapetto (“Quidam” Cirque du Soleil, Teatro ZinZanni) with music played live by the eight-octave range singer-composer Morgan Sorne.
“Tend”
A contemporary trio by emerging choreographer Adrian Hoffman for Luminario Ballet about tending to our fractured friendships post covid lockdown.
“Never Tell”
An aerial rope sling ballet by international aerial dance superstar Rebekah Burke (“Zumanity” Cirque du Soleil Las Vegas, “Queen of the Night” New York, “Palazzo,” Hamburg Germany, “The Act” in Dubai UAE, and much more. Winner of the U.S. Aerial Championships in 2015.
“Spooky Gothic”
Excerpted ballet works choreographed by artistic director Judith FLEX Helle to tingle your spine:
- “Leierman” from Schubert’s “Winterreise” commissioned by Angeles Concert Artists 2011
- “Vampires and Ghosts” performed live from the dance film “L’Invalide” 2021 made with a grant from LA County Arts and Culture
- “Mandolin” and “Kashmir” from “LedZAerial” 2009-2022



“This fal/wiinter is Luminario’s FIRST SEASON since lockdown, waaaaay back in March 2020, and we couldn’t be happier about it, says artistic director Judith FLEX Helle.” “We are raising funds for flights, for expenses associated with our November full evening show and residency at Santa Fe College in Gainesville, FL; for flights and staff showcasing January 2023 at Ailey Citigroup Theater in NY; and for dancer and choreographer fees in February 2023 at The Wallis Annenberg Performing Arts Center in Beverly Hills.”
