Keeping It Inn A theatre review of “Keeping It Inn,” written and performed by Cindy Pierce, developed and directed by Traci Mariano at Whitefire Theatre’s Solofest 2022.

“Keeping it Inn” is a charming and heartfelt homage to Cindy Pierce’s parents and her own life growing up with them and the rest of her large rambunctious family at their inn in New Hampshire.

Cindy plays the role of her mother, Nancy, just after she has passed. As her mother, she  takes this surprising opportunity to put in perspective all she has learned over a lifetime. Framing for us what, in retrospect, is to her most important. What memories she most reaches for and how grateful she is for her perfectly imperfect life.

Anecdote by anecdote, each thoughtful moment and hilarious memory beautifully told,  Cindy takes us decade by decade through her parents brilliant life.  And each memory bringing us deeper and deeper into a truly special partnership and the kind of depth of understanding between two people we should all hope for.

Cindy Pierce’s “Keeping It Inn” is a revelation. Bravo!

Her mother must have been a marvel. Cindy plays her gently, teasing out her extraordinariness with loving, funny candour.  I miss my parents every day and Cindy’s “Keeping it Inn” brought my own precious memories flooding back. My parents where just as adventurous as hers, just as brave and irrepressible, full of laughter and joy and capable of anything they set their minds to, regardless of how crazy everyone else thought they might be to even try.  So, I am so grateful to be reminded though her show how unique we all are and how we must always honor that.

All we have is the life we are given. In the end what we do with it and who we spend our time with is all that matters.  Do no harm and have some fun and keep putting one foot in front of the other no matter what.

I loved this show, I admit I cried a few times but the rest of the time I laughed out loud and I couldn’t wait to hear what happened next.

So that’s a pretty good indictment of a story well told don’t you think?

Solo shows are wonderfully intimate and solo performers the bravest of the brave in my opinion.

“Keeping It Inn” is one of those shows where you barely breath for risk of missing anything. Richly drawn, gorgeously constructed, exquisitely performed and moving beyond words.

Cindy Pierce’s “Keeping It Inn” is a revelation. Bravo!
