Boy Boi is Jazzy

Everyone’s talking about Marie Kondo and her successful “Does it bring you joy?” approach. Well, we know for sure, without a doubt, that dance brings us joy, and we want to share the joy dancers give. Afterall, sharing is caring.

We picked Jose “Boy Boi” Tena as our first feature because he’s simply jazzy, figuratively and literally. 

But there’s nothing simple about Boy Boi’s choreography. His technique shines through his sharp yet fluid jazz funk choreography. He’s jazz reinvented. #JazzisBack. Looking closely at his choreography you can see the difficulty level but he makes it look easy, breezy, strong and natural. Dancing is what he is meant to do.  His love for the art explodes in every video we watch and his energy brings us joy. Choosing just one video is impossible.

You can see him in “Step up 3D” and Beyoncé’s “Let’s Move” campaign. He’s danced on Arianna Grande’s “Dangerous Woman” tour and he’s a company member with Dana Foglia Dance, where we first saw him command the stage, making us ask, “Who’s that?!” 

Boy Boi studied dance at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts and was a YouthArts dance finalist. But he’s not only an accomplished dancer, he’s also a favorite choreographer with our program’s dancers. You feel his energy through his videos but it’s a treat to feel that happy vibe live, in one of his classes.
