We’re listening to all of Jorja Smith’s music but here are two we were forced to choose: “On My Mind” and “Beautiful Little Fools”
Jorja Smith is soulful and jazzy and she has this brightness. She has a vocal range that makes you stop and listen. She’s a big star, but don’t just take our word for it, ask Bruno, Drake…or anyone who’s ever listened to her. You can hear her latest single “I Am” on the Kendrick Lamar-produced “Black Panther” soundtrack. We first heard the sultry voice on Kali Uchis “Tyrant” and that was it. But we had to pick just one song. That was impossible so we’ve picked two.
Our first Jorja pick is the Preditah mix “On My Mind,” instant head bop song with the clean, easily danceable drum beats. It’s a departure from her more soulful work. . It’s punchy and sexy. But it puts us in a fun mood and the video takes us back, back to easy fun hanging out with friends one afternoon. The chorus is especially appealing. It’s a “whatever, dude, I’m done” sort of dis:
Don’t want to feel you
Don’t want you on my mind
The second Jorja pick is “Beautiful Little Fools” because of her voice, hands down. The opening piano is sultry and sets the mood. We first listened to the to the song and then saw the video.
Both the song and video are rich with color, soul and feels.
She’ll be rolling through SoCal for Coachella and will stop in L.A on Wednesday, April 18 at The Novo. We’ll be there!
