From Staten Island and Italian Bred.

Candice Guardino’s “Italian Bred” – The critically acclaimed, hugely successful one-women show comes to The Colony Theatre, Burbank.

After sold-out shows Off Broadway and rave reviews, and back in L.A. after last year’s sold out shows at The Hudson, Candice Guardino is bringing her one-women show “Italian Bred” to the Colony Theatre in beautiful downtown Burbank.

Born in Brooklyn, raised in Staten Island, Candice has taken stories from her own life and created a heartwarming and candid glimpse into what it feels like to be a little girl growing up Italian in Staten Island.

Candice is an accomplished writer having worked on “The Guiding Light,” “All My Children,” “Max Bickford” and “Law & Order,” as well as her own hit show in New York “S.O.S,” which ran at Stage 72 and the Laurie Beechman.

Having written down everything her loving and outspoken grandmother ever uttered, Candice slips in and out of multiple characters while sharing the stage with virtual cameos of Emmy winner Leslie Jordan (“Will and Grace”), Mario Cantone (“Sex & the City”), Steve Schirripa (“The Sopranos”), and Vic DiBitetto (“Mall Cop 2.”)

Candice Guardino shared:

“Each time my parents see the show my mother says: ‘I was good tonight Candice.’”

Clearly she loves Candice’s interpretation of her!

We all have hilarious and embarrassing moments from our childhood, some of us more than others, but Candice has turned hers into a spectacular memory-fest full of the comedy of our lives. With musical accompaniment she fearlessly lays bare her familiar, horrifying and hilarious adolescent journey and welcomes us with open arms into her eccentric, loud and loving Staten Island Italian world.

I’m not sure my family would be thrilled to see themselves and their lives on stage, but then it seems Ms Guardino’s big Italian family revel in their ‘fame’ and are fully supportive of her touring the US with this hugely popular show, to sold out crowds no less!

Candice has taken the advice all writers are given – to write what you know – to new heights of humor and dramatic daring and reminds us all how, even though sometimes we wish them away, family is always the most important thing in our lives.

After successful runs Off Broadway, L.A. became the natural next step for the Guardino story, especially since there are plans in the works for TV and Film versions. So you should probably take in the ‘live’ version before it becomes cinematic history! After Los Angeles the show moves to Chicago, Milwaukee, New York, Jersey and then stays on the West Coast.
