“Into The Light” ~ Crooked Flower

This sweet and funky EP is full of great vintage style dance tracks rounded out by the warmly gorgeous vocals of Angelina Dang.

She fronts the band with her great erstwhile blend of Gwen Steffani, Debbie Harry and Chrissie Hynde. The tracks are retro and modern, very 80s but very definitively on the cooler side, no prog rock in sight. There’s even a bit of Heart in here too for good measure.

It’s a hotly produced album, smooth and memorable, lots of space for the guitar solos, which take us back to the 80s again…in the best possible way. I hear Duran Duran!! I hear The Police!!!! I hear UB40!!!!

So why listen to this music if it’s such a reminder of icons? Because of the funk, the twist on a genre, the all-new vision of these excellent influences. “Into The Light” is a really great EP regardless of what decade it hardens back to. And because of this beautiful blend of aching purple rain guitar with Angelina’s soft effortlessly soulful brilliantly tough vocals you will love this EP, it’s staying on my stereo for a while!!! (Too 80s for you?)
