The Longest Day

[NoHo Arts District, CA] –  A NoHo Arts theatre review of Write Act Repertory’s inaugural Hot Summer Nights – The Musicals (2024), original one-act plays written by various Write Act Repertory writers.

Write Act is full of surprises! Hot Summer Nights is their first collection of one-act musicals and what a great way to celebrate their very special kind of indie theatre than to sing it!

With four very different storylines, these original musicals center on such things as the deep ties of high school best friends, the pressure of destination weddings, that even witches have bad days, and a techno-pop opera about the ritual of letting go.

Interruptions

The stories are a delightful mixture of themes, nothing too heavy, but still they have meaning and purpose, with or without the songs. Musicals are always wonderful aren’t they?

Infinite Summer

Music has magic. It lifts our mood and touches our heart in ways that nothing else ever could. So I was delighted to sit in the lovely Brickhouse Theatre and listen to such a committed group of actors raising the roof with their voices.

Every single actor gave it their all. They harmonized beautifully as they told their stories with song and the effect of all their efforts was brilliant.

Write Act Rep makes a habit of authenticity and experimental forms of theatre and for that alone we should be thrilled they call NoHo home. I know I am! This wonderful celebration of songs runs through August 25, so don’t waste any time in buying your tickets to Hot Summer Nights! We need to support small theatre in L.A. and especially NoHo theatre!! Bravo!
