With movie-inspired drinks, creepy décor and a community of devoted horror fans, Horror Vibes Coffee has turned a neighborhood coffee stop into an immersive experience.
We caught up with Omaira, founder CEO of Horror Vibes Coffee, to talk killer coffee, creepy décor, their resident artist and why NoHo was the perfect place to call home.
What is the inspiration behind Horror Vibes Coffee?
I grew up loving horror, Halloween, and all things spooky and goth, so I wanted to create a place where people like me could come together and feel at home. Because what else brings people together like a good, spooky cup of coffee?
If Horror Vibes Coffee were a horror movie, what would the plot be?
Horror Vibes is a portal disguised as a coffee shop. Anyone who walks in can never leave and is destined to serve coffee and spread the spooky vibes forever.
What’s the strangest or funniest customer reaction you’ve gotten to the shop?
The funniest is someone who wrote a review online when we first opened saying that they didn’t like the shop because of the creepy Chucky and Annabelle dolls that were there and he felt that they shouldn’t have been there (we didn’t listen to him).
Is there a favorite piece of décor or artwork in the shop?
Yes, the black and white piece with the slashers serving coffee. It was the first piece of art done by our resident artist Phill (Instagram @pbourque77) and it helped set the tone of our spooky shop and the Horror Vibes brand.
Why NoHo?
North Hollywood’s Arts District felt like the perfect fit for Horror Vibes. It’s creative, community-focused, and has that small-neighborhood feel we love. We wanted to create a space where people could come together, connect, and embrace all things spooky.
Most popular drink on the menu?
The most popular drink is the Scizzorhandz latte. It is a chocolate-hazelnut latte inspired by the film Edward Scissorhands.
What makes your coffee shop different?
We’re more than just a coffee shop, we’ve created an immersive horror experience and a community for people who love all things spooky to be who they are. From our movie-inspired drinks to our décor, everything is designed to make you feel like you’ve stepped into the realm of all things spooky!
Do you offer things other than coffee?
Yes! We offer merchandise, spooky sweet treats by Deadly Sweet Co, and our non-coffee selection on the menu consists of teas, kid-friendly milk-based drinks, and fun seasonal chillers!
What was your favorite part of decorating the shop?
My favorite part was seeing the whole vision come together and watching the space transform into something that feels like you’ve stepped into a horror movie. Every little detail adds to the experience, and ambience is everything. I am so proud of what I’ve built, what Horror Vibes means to other people and of providing that safe space to be yourself and enjoy some killer coffee.
