Write Act Repertory presents the holiday production of Holiday of Lights – A Cabaret Celebration of Music by Michael Antin.

It is the newest presentation of local composers from the critically acclaimed and award-winning theatre company, Write Act Repertory.

I always enjoy good cabaret but I was apprehensive due to not knowing Michael Antin’s work. Michael was the narrator for the evening, providing the audience with introductions to four musicals which he was the writer, composer and lyricist – Butterfly, Sophia, Renewal and Pillars of New York. All four of these musicals were fully produced in Los Angeles and in New York by John Lant in association with Write Act Repertory. Michael was a tax lawyer for 45 years and when he retired, he returned to his first passion of music and theatre….Thank goodness!

Michael had a comedic style and described aspects of his four musicals, which gave meaning and emotion to the song selection. Michael truly set the scene brilliantly for the lovely performances by Dana Shaw and David Michael Trevino. They sang 20 different songs that covered a wide range of styles from Jazz to Broadway. Their vocals were top notch and it was oblivious they were seasoned performers of musical theatre and cabaret. I particularly enjoyed Dana Shaw singing “This Girl Knows How to be a Star” and David Michael Trevino’s “Shes a Bitch.” The duets were outstanding.

Larry Klein was on the drums and, excuse the pun, but never missed a beat. On piano was David Kamenir who seamlessly directed the cabaret for a most enjoyable night of entertainment.

The audience even got to sing the chorus of a robust beer drinking song!

Only two performances left …December 11, 2016 and closing Sunday December 18, 2016. Don’t miss this cabaret celebration!
